The southern coast of Vietnam is poised to become a new frontier for renewable energy. Amid the nation’s growing demand for electricity and its pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, the Shuozhuang Offshore Wind Project near Soc Trang Province is emerging as a cornerstone of Vietnam’s offshore wind journey.
Vietnam’s coastal geography offers some of the most promising wind resources in Southeast Asia. The Shuozhuang Offshore Wind Project has been strategically planned to capture this potential, with a total installed capacity of 500 MW and an initial Phase 1 capacity of 30 MW. Once fully operational, the project will contribute substantially to the country’s renewable energy supply and strengthen the southern grid network.Under a favorable Feed-in Tariff (FIT) of USD 0.065 per kWh, the project is positioned to deliver stable, cost-efficient power generation while ensuring commercial viability for long-term investors. By leveraging advanced offshore turbine technologies and resilient infrastructure design, the project aims to meet the dual challenge of coastal climate conditions and sustainable power delivery.
The Shuozhuang project aligns with Vietnam’s national offshore wind roadmap, which targets 1 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030. As the country transitions from coal dependency toward cleaner alternatives, offshore wind has become a central pillar in its decarbonization strategy. The Soc Trang site, with its high wind density and favorable water depths, has been identified as an ideal zone for sustained energy production and future expansion. This initiative not only reinforces Vietnam’s green energy ambitions but also reflects the growing collaboration between regional and international partners in renewable infrastructure. It marks a significant step in the country’s broader strategy to diversify energy sources, stabilize supply, and achieve sustainable economic growth.
Beyond energy generation, the project serves as a catalyst for local industry development. Construction, operation, and maintenance will generate new employment opportunities for skilled workers and technicians, fostering a foundation for Vietnam’s offshore engineering capabilities. Local suppliers and service providers are expected to play key roles, supporting a more self-reliant renewable energy ecosystem in the years ahead. The offshore wind sector also brings technological innovation to Vietnam’s energy landscape. From advanced marine logistics to digital monitoring systems and data-driven turbine optimization, the Shuozhuang project integrates global best practices into local development.
As Southeast Asia moves toward sustainable industrialization, projects like Shuozhuang exemplify how renewable energy can drive economic resilience and environmental stewardship simultaneously. Offshore wind, with its vast untapped potential, represents not only a clean energy solution but also a pathway for long-term regional cooperation and shared prosperity. The Shuozhuang Offshore Wind Project thus stands as more than an energy investment — it is a symbol of Vietnam’s forward-looking vision, where clean power generation, innovation, and community benefit converge to shape a more sustainable future.
